Re: TAX RETURN
i'd say FAL....
|
Re: TAX RETURN
Either a FAL or a M14/M1A style rifle. Don't forget plenty of mags! Plus ammo. Plus practice.....
|
Re: TAX RETURN
I'd try to fix my w2 or whatever to where I don't get so much back. But I have the FAL and like it.
|
Re: TAX RETURN
FAL or M1A all the way.
+1 on the plenty of mags, ammo and practice to back em up ;) |
Re: TAX RETURN
I have started to look at the PTR-91, what is the downside on these?
|
Re: TAX RETURN
That's a good chunk of change. You could buy both a DSA FAL and a LRB M14. What a wonderful position to be in!

Recoil with the HK91 style rifles also tends to be harsher than with a FAL. Mags are pretty cheap. |
Re: TAX RETURN
How many of you are claiming the $3000/yr deduction for capital losses from the stock market last year? I know I am... its sad but at least it is a few more dollars in the pocket from my tax return.

Re: TAX RETURN
A buddy of mine bought a Remington 750 and said it was a 308. I am not an expert in this category but it looked and felt really nice, and he said it ran about $600.

Re: TAX RETURN
I've owned BOTH the HK91 & HK93 AND the FN FAL, both in a normal rifle and a heavy barrel with bipod.
For a .308 rifle, the German HK IS THE WAY TO GO. Period. Having said that, if you don't have the $5k to spend on an HK, the FN FAL is almost as nice, but you will still spend close to the same money. Now I'm talking MADE BY Heckler and Koch (HK) OR made by the Belgium company Fabrique Nationale (FN) rifles. NOT SOME KIT PUT TOGETHER BY SOMEONE ELSE. THE REAL DEAL. You will pay extra. But you will get an extremely reliable accurate semi-auto .308 rifle. Both rifles will hold their value or increase in value. The HK more so than the FN FAL. But only because of the lack of numbers of HK here in the USA. There was a fair number of FN FAL's that came into the USA back in the mid 1980's and that's when I purchased mine. Got two excellent examples and loved shooting both of them. I would say that HK mags are a tad more expensive. But FN FAL's aren't cheap. But like I said, if I had the money (I used to), I would (and did) buy Heckler and Koch. You will NOT be disappointed. Now if you've got a lot more money to burn, say somewhere around $20k, a good example of the HK PSG sniper rifle is the end all, be all of sniper rifles. But first you must have the $$$, then you've got to find someone willing to part with theirs. The second part will be much more difficult to accomplish than getting the money. |

Re: TAX RETURN
I'm going out on a limb here by suggesting a decent AK-47 and a few extra 30 round mags plus a few thousand rounds of 7.62x39. Should cost about 1K for a decent AK. 1k for 3k ammo, and a few hundred for extra mags.
Best short to medium range battle rifle AFAIK for the money. Time to get ready. |
Re: TAX RETURN
bump on the ak+mags+ammo
|
Re: TAX RETURN
I had a ton of itemized deductions this year.
Mortgage interest blah blah blah, and I work for the federal government so I have mandatory withholding percentage. I can only do so much on my W-4. Anyways I am leaning towards an FN or an HK. I have heard really good things about the the FN patrol rifles. They are bolt action, but they are super accurate. I like the HK 93 as well. |

Re: TAX RETURN
If only I could get a $7000 interest free loan!! The feds get all the breaks.

Re: TAX RETURN
My recommendation for a solid .308 battle rifle:
Go ahead and start buying ammo today! The prices will only go up, and it is a good form of barter (among friendlies of course). You should have on hand at least 2K rounds per rifle. Next: Check out magazine and spare parts availability, as well as optics and other accessories for the rifles on your short list. I think it should be a toss-up between an M1A and a DSA FAL. |

Re: TAX RETURN
It is a MISCONCEPTION that the Fluted chamber on the HK91 rifle "chews up brass"
The flute marks are cosmetic, and can be IGNORED during normal case preparation/ resizing operations. |

But seriously, this just goes to show how fked the whole tax system is and the whole deduction issue. As an example, my house in my county is one of the more expensive homes you will find. But my mortagage interest I paid last year (yr 1 of a 30 yr fixed) was only $9000. Now with your 30K interest I am sure that reflects a higher home value which is directly related to the wages and salaries one makes in your market. So you make more money, and are somewhat forced to buy a more expensive house but are able to deduct a lot more off of the paid taxes. I would understand the need to be able to deduct the high interest if all things were the same to make things even for people in different areas of the country, but that is offset by the higher wages. In short the whole tax code is a freaking disaster, but that is for another forum. |
